He is love, they said. He is good, they said. You can trust Him, they said. I searched for this God they described, while living undiagnosed and without understanding of Complex Trauma Disorder. I felt like a blind woman navigating an unknown room, searching for God while listening to the voices describing him. But it was so dark, and as I searched, I longed to trust Him without fear of betrayal, abuse or abandonment; without fear that the God at the end of my search might be filled with hate and anger and rage.
If you live with Complex Trauma Disorder you know that maintaining relationships with others and developing a sense-of-self is nearly impossible without an anchor. There are lots of things in this world to which you can anchor. I found the most trustworthy, unchanging anchor in Jesus and I'd love to tell you about it.
As I read this book, I held a constant tension of wanting to keep reading chapter after chapter as quickly as possible and willing myself to slow down and take it all in so that I didn't miss a thing. It is excellent! So many theological concepts about how we relate to God were falling into place for me, finally making sense! I’m so glad we can call Him trusted.

Who should read this book? If you are a parent, you need to read it to understand how your choices about good and evil impact your kids. If you are in ministry, you need to read it to see how those you serve may see God differently than you because of past abuse. If someone you love has gone through what you hesitate to even try to imagine, this book could be like a window into their soul as it may give words to what they’ve never been able to articulate to you. If abuse is part of your personal story, I pray this book will help you see God’s true character and His plan for creation with a biblical lens, and that Evangeline’s tender words, raw honesty and thoughtful questions will be like a healing balm to your wounds.
